Opened in December 2006, JAMES is a unique boutique and gallery space offering fine art and home furnishings and accessories, semi-custom made clothing and jewelry created by contemporary designers and artists, and a special mix of carefully selected antique and vintage items.
The idea behind JAMES was sparked by a compelling question: Can we offer our customers deliberate, thoughtful product choices directed toward creating a positive impact on developing worldwide communities in need of economic assistance?
With that goal in mind, a majority of goods featured at JAMES are created by artisans and craftspeople utilizing traditional skills to preserve cultural heritages (see the stories). We take pride in maintaining a strong commitment to design and stylistic integrity, while simultaneously helping developing communities build their own sustainable and marketable businesses. At James we provide a marketplace for fair trade goods that are stylish, beautifully crafted and reflect the cultures in which they are made.
Whenever possible, we source products made from organic or recycled materials in order to minimize our footprint left on the environment and to also help encourage the production and use of eco-friendly goods. Finally, we work to uphold these same principles in our business practices: printed paper packaging, store fixtures, in-house production, and support materials are environmentally sensitive.
